2018 TIPS Sudden Science Research Grant

The Infection Prevention Strategy (TIPS) Sudden Science Research Grant (SSRG) program is made possible through a collaborative between TIPS and NSF International’s Applied Research Center (ARC). TIPS is issuing this request for proposals which awards one research grant for a project relating to applied research in infection prevention. Funding for this program is provided through NSF International’s ARC and is awarded through a competitive process.
The aim of this program is to allow academic and independent researchers more flexibility for direct submission of applied research proposals which are relevant to the TIPS and ARC research agendas. For the 2018 grant, TIPS will award funding to one proposal which falls under either of the following research agenda categories:
Infection Prevention – Applied research that helps to reduce the spread of contamination in healthcare and prevent infections.
– Antimicrobial resistance
– Disinfectant resistance
– Hand hygiene
– Environmental contamination remediation, detection or monitoring
– Disinfection methods chemistry
– Skin and surface coatings
Genomics in Healthcare – Research that demonstrates the application of genomics in surveillance, contamination detection, monitoring, microbial identification or general infection prevention in healthcare.
Important healthcare contaminants – Research to aid or support implementation of technologies to provide cost effective options for identifying, controlling or preventing the transmission of known or emerging contaminants, etc. Important healthcare contaminants that the TIPS is tracking or is aware of (listed in no specific order) include, but are not limited to Clostridium difficile or other pathogens which have been, or are currently being, monitored, opportunistic pathogens such as legionella and other microbial contaminants
Regulatory Concerns – Conduct research to support efforts to defeat ill‐conceived codes and rules or promote technologies in highly regulated areas.

*For the 2018 grant the cost of the research proposal shall not exceed $35,000 USD with preference for an in-kind match of at least 25% and indirect costs that do not to exceed 13%. Matching contributions to help maximize the success of the project are strongly encouraged.
